Taught Programmes

Our academic staff are committed to the pursuit of excellence across all elements of research and teaching, and are at the forefront of current developments. In the latest (2008) Research Assessment Exercise, 15% of our research was rated as world-leading and a further 45% as internationally excellent.  This research underpins the high quality teaching across the programmes offered by the Division.

Undergraduate Programmes

There are also many Honours programmes available that combine Economics with another subject.

Postgraduate Programmes

At Master's level, we offer the following taught programmes:

MSc in Banking and Finance. This is a one-year full-time programme taught jointly by the Economics and Accounting and Finance Divisions of Stirling Management School.   It is intended to develop the knowledge and analytical skills that are needed to equip students for a successful career in banking, finance and related areas. It is aimed at students from a variety of backgrounds, including those that do not have any previous training in economics or accountancy.  Its students are drawn from all over the world.

MSc in Energy Management. This is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time programme taught jointly by the Economics and Business and Marketing Divisions of Stirling Management School. The MSc develops the knowledge and analytical skills needed to equip students for a successful career in energy policy analysis, energy management or energy planning in the energy, financial or environmental sectors. It is aimed at students from a variety of backgrounds, including students with no previous training in economics or management.

MSc in Economics
. This is part of the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE). This is a collaboration of the eight older Scottish universities and staff from all these universities contribute to the teaching. The MSc teaching takes place at Edinburgh. After successful completion of the MSc in Economics, interested students may apply for admission into the PhD part of the SGPE.

MSc in Environmental Economics. This is a one-year and full-time programme offered by the Division of Economics within the Stirling Management School. Stirling has a long-standing, strong expertise in teaching, research and practice in this area. After completion of the programme, students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to successfully pursue careers in the environmental (and energy) sectors.

Doctorial Level.  The Division welcomes applications related to environmental and energy economics, labour and education economics, economic history, money, banking and finance, as well as applied economics and applied econometrics.  We also offer a PhD Economics, this is part of the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE), which includes PhD students at eight Scottish universities. It is a programme that allow students to pursue their proposed research under the supervision of a member of staff with interests and expertise in the field. Support for students is provided by Stirling Economics staff, the Stirling Graduate Research School and the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics.
