Research in Economics

The Division of Economics has an international research reputation and much of the research carried out is collaborative with economists from universities across the globe.   In the latest (2008) Research Assessment Exercise, 15% of our research was rated as world-leading and a further 45% as internationally excellent.

Members of the department have received substantial research funding from a range of sources, including: ESRC, European Investment Ban, Scottish Funding Council, Economic and Social Researh Council, The Carnegie Trust, The National Assembly for Wales, Scottish Executive, Jospeh Rowntree Foundation, TEAGASC and the Leverhulme Trust.  They have served as advisors and consultants to national and international agencies

Research by staff members cover a variety of topics, organised in three major areas:

  • Money, Banking and Finance
  • Environmental and Energy Economics
  • Work and Well-being
  • Economic History
The Division contributes to both the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE) and the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics (SIRE).  A lively research culture is fostered by weekly workshops at which staff and research students present their work, by weekly seminars by visiting speakers and by inviting visitors to work in Stirling.
